Upscale for Instagram Only When the Crop Is Small
A feed displays a square or a 4:5 crop far below the 3,200 px free download. Most camera photos need a crop, not a model.
- No signup for the first three
- Deleted after 24 hours
JPEG, PNG, WebP, or AVIF. No account for the first three repairs.

Left: a pale veil over the bottle. Right: the clear photo.
The feed is smaller than the file you already have
Instagram’s display size moves, and it has never been a poster. A 1080 px wide square, or a 4:5 frame around 1080 by 1350, is the neighborhood people prepare. The free download on this tool stops at 3,200 px on the long edge, which is already past that neighborhood. If your export is 2000 px on the short side, do not upscale it for a grid. You would be inventing texture the app will shrink and recompress.
The damage people actually see is the recompress and the crop. A face that was sharp in the camera roll becomes soft after a messaging app and a second save. Bring the camera export, crop to 4:5 yourself, and upload that. If the only surviving file is a 600 px screenshot of a story, 2× makes 1,200, which is in the neighborhood, and the letters and the face still need to be read afterward. 4× of a story screenshot is a larger screenshot.
Portrait crops are the likeness problem in a small frame. Unblur if the face is soft. Do not face-restore a profile picture of someone you know unless the features have collapsed, and even then compare another photo. A sharper stranger in a circle is a bad profile. The avatar page is the tiny-crop version of the same warning.
What the app will do after you
The platform will compress again. A delicate denoise can be undone by that compress, or the blocks can come back around the hair. Judge our slider, then judge the file after it has been through the app, if you can stand to export it back out. We cannot see the app’s second compress. We can only not add a generation of blocks on the way in. PNG or a high-quality JPEG in, WebP prediction out, one export to the app.
Carousels and covers do not change the pixel math. A cover that must be legible at the size of a thumb is a type problem. Retype the title. Do not unblur a wordmark and hope. Logos belong on the logo page, and the answer is still the vector if you have it.
Night photos posted from a phone are the night page: denoise speckle, leave streaks, do not upscale noise. Product photos for a shop grid are the product page: read the label. This page is only the size claim. The size claim is small.
You do not need Studio for a grid
Guests can try 2×, denoise, and unblur. Three credits a day. The download cap is not the constraint for a feed. Pro and Studio matter when the same file must also be a print. Do not buy 8× because a preset said ‘social.’ 8× of a selfie is a large invented face.
Commercial use is allowed on every plan when you have the rights, including a brand grid. Free pages show ads on our page. The platform’s own ads are not ours. We delete the upload and the result after 24 hours, so the posted file has to live on the phone or in your library. A failed job returns the credit. The subscription, if you have one for other work, is not refunded.
HEIC from a recent iPhone must be exported before upload here. The share sheet that also shrinks the long edge has already thrown away the samples. Match the edge in the camera roll to the edge of the JPEG. Then decide if you need us at all.
A worked frame
The camera JPEG is 4000 px on the long edge. Instagram will show a crop near 1080 px wide. Export a 1350 px tall 4:5 from the camera file and stop. Uploading the 4000 px file to this tool is a guest rejection on the input cap and a waste of a credit on a paid plan. The case that belongs here is the opposite: a 700 px screenshot of a story, the camera roll already gone. 2× makes 1400, which meets the feed and fits in the free download with room. Read the face and any caption you did not retype. Then expect the app to compress again. If the blocks come back around the hair, that is the platform, not a reason to denoise and upscale a second time. A logo in the corner of the same post should not go through face restore. A night version of the same crop should be denoised only if the speckle is the complaint. The 3200 px cap is not your target. 1080 is. We delete our copy in 24 hours. The posted file has to live on the phone.
Three steps on this file
01
Measure the crop
If it is already past 1,200 px on the long edge, skip the upscale.
02
Repair only a real defect
Noise, a short smear, or a tiny screenshot. Not a 12-megapixel original.
03
Export once to the app
A second low-quality save puts the blocks back. We will not still have the file tomorrow.
Settings that matter here
- A story screenshot is a bad master. Find the camera file.
- 4:5 is a crop, not a quality setting.
- Do not face-restore a profile to make it ‘pop.’
- 3,200 px is more than the grid needs.
Where this shows up
A soft 800 px export
2× lands near the display size. Read the face after. Stop there.
A brand post that is also a print
Prepare the print on the print pages. Downscale a copy for the feed. Do not upscale the feed file.
Limits and formats
JPEG, PNG, WebP, and AVIF decode on the server. HEIC from a phone needs to be exported to JPEG first. The preview is not watermarked. Guest and Free plan downloads are capped at 3,200 px on the long edge. Pro and Studio download the full file. Nothing on this site is an ad.

Questions worth asking first
Can I try this without an account?
Yes. Guests get 3 credits a day. 2×, denoise, and unblur cost one. Colorize costs two. 4× and face restore start on Pro. 8× is Studio.
What pixel size does Instagram need?
A feed frame around 1080 px wide is the usual target. The 3,200 px free download already clears it.
Is the preview watermarked?
No. Guest and Free plan downloads are capped at 3,200 px on the long edge. Pro and Studio download the full file.
What if the job fails?
The credit is returned. A failed job is not charged. A finished file you dislike does not return the credit or the subscription fee.
How long do you keep the upload?
Uploads and results are deleted 24 hours after the job is created.
Can I use the result commercially?
Yes, on every plan, including the free tool, when you have the rights to process the file.
