Upscale an Image 4× When the Pro Needs the Pixels

Four times the edge is sixteen times the pixels. That is a print jump, not a preview. It lives on the Pro plan because the file it makes is the file you would actually send.

  • No signup for the first three
  • Deleted after 24 hours
Set the mode

JPEG, PNG, WebP, or AVIF. No account for the first three repairs.

4×

Mode

The arithmetic, without a slogan

A 1000-pixel-wide crop at 4× becomes 4000 pixels wide. That covers a 300 ppi print a little over 13 inches wide, or a 4×6 with room to spare, and it is in range of an 8×10. A 500-pixel crop becomes 2000, which is a 4×6 at 300 ppi only on the short side if you are careful, and soft if you are not. Measure the paper on the print-size pages. Do not pick 4× because the button looks more serious than 2×.

4× costs two credits and requires Pro or Studio. Pro is $12 a month, 120 credits, no rollover, batch of 12, uploads to 20 MB and a 4,096 px long edge. Studio is $29, 500 credits, batch of 40, 40 MB and 8,192 px, and adds 8×. Guest and Free plan accounts cannot start 4×. They can still run 2× and decide the file is worth the plan.

The download on Pro and Studio is the full result, with no watermark. The preview matches it. Free pages show ads. A provider failure returns the two credits. A successful 4× that invents a window or a tooth does not. You can cancel the subscription anytime. The charge for the period is not refunded. The upload and the 4× file are deleted after 24 hours.

Look harder, because 4× has more room to invent

Texture is the tell. Brick, hair, foliage, and knit fabric are where a model pastes a plausible pattern that was not in the small file. Skin going smooth is the other tell. Compare those regions on the slider at 100 percent, not at a fit-to-screen view that hides the invention. If 2× was already wrong, do not pay two credits to see the same error larger.

Face restore is a separate mode, also two credits, also Pro. 4× does not automatically rebuild eyes. If the face is mush, read that page and decide whether a likeness guess belongs in the print at all. If the face is merely small but intact, 4× without face restore is the more conservative file.

Batch the 4× only after one frame from the set has passed that inspection. Twelve is the Pro batch. A shoebox that fails on the first three will fail in a way that spends the month. Commercial use of a file you have rights to is allowed on every plan, including the free tool. That is not a license to upload someone else’s private photograph without a reason.

A last look at invented weave

Brick, hair, knit, and foliage are where 4× pastes a pattern the small file did not contain. Inspect those at 100 percent, not at a view that fits the new 4000-pixel edge on a laptop. If 2× was already wrong in the same spot, stop. Two credits is the cost of a success. A failure returns them. The month you subscribed, $12 for Pro or $29 for Studio, does not come back because the weave looked fake.

4× is sixteen times the pixels and it is not automatically a 300 ppi print. A 500-pixel crop becomes 2000, which is a soft 8×10 and a plausible 4×6. Measure. Face restore is a different two-credit mode. Use it only when the face has collapsed and you can check the person. Batch twelve after one frame, not before.

What to keep beside the slider

Four times the edge is sixteen times the pixels and two credits on Pro or Studio. A 1000-pixel crop becomes 4000, which can cover a 4×6 and approach an 8×10. A 500-pixel crop becomes 2000, which is often still soft for a frame people hold. Measure before you treat 4× as the serious button. Prove the file at 2× on the free tool. Inspect brick, hair, and knit at 100 percent. Face restore is a separate mode. Batch twelve only after one frame is a file you would sign. The full download is unmarked. The subscription is not refunded if you cancel after a weave you dislike. The objects are deleted in a day.

The decision you can defend

Sixteen times the pixels is a print jump, not a personality. Measure the crop against the paper. Prove it at 2×. Inspect weave and hair at 100 percent. Two credits return only if the job errors. A cancelled month does not return the fee. The full file is the paid download, and it is deleted with the upload after a day. If the 2× was already quiet, 4× is a size change, not a new idea.

Three steps on this file

  1. 01

    Prove it at 2×

Guests can do that today. If the 2× invents, stop.

  2. 02

Run 4× on Pro or Studio

Two credits. Full-size download. No watermark. Ads stay off the tool card.

  3. 03

    Send the lab your copy

Ours is deleted after 24 hours. The subscription, if you cancel, is not refunded.

Settings that matter here

  • 4× of a 4096-pixel upload is a very large file. Know the long edge before you upload.
  • Denoise before 4× if the small file is noisy.
  • The 8× page is Studio only.
  • Print-size calculators turn the pixel count into inches.

Where this shows up

A crop for an 8×10

The group photo was large and the face was not. 4× is the candidate after 2× looks like the same person.

A small scan of a slide

The frame was never 300 ppi at the size you want. 4× may reach it. The poster page says when it will not.

Limits and formats

JPEG, PNG, WebP, and AVIF decode on the server. HEIC from a phone needs to be exported to JPEG first. The preview is not watermarked. Guest and Free plan downloads are capped at 3,200 px on the long edge. Pro and Studio download the full file. Nothing on this site is an ad.

Questions worth asking first

Why is 4× not free?

The full-size file is the product. Guests can judge a 2× preview. Pro is $12 a month for the uncapped download and this mode.

How many credits?

Two. A failure returns them. A success you reject does not.

Is the preview watermarked?

No. Guest and Free plan downloads are capped at 3,200 px on the long edge. Pro and Studio download the full file.

Can I cancel?

Yes. Subscriptions cancel anytime and are not refunded. The plan lasts until the period you already paid, then the account returns to Free plan.

How long do you keep the upload?

Uploads and results are deleted 24 hours after the job is created.

Does 4× include face restore?

No. Face restore is its own mode, also on Pro.
